Evolving and embracing change

Creating a sustainable museum in Leeds

Tue 04 Jul | Free

15:00 - 15:30

Leeds

Leeds City Museum, Millennium Square, Leeds, LS2 8BH

Hear from the Curator of Natural Science and Principal Keeper of Leeds City Museum about the creation of a more sustainable gallery and how the space aims to bridge the gap between scientific research and real-world knowledge for visitors.

Clare will discuss the Life on Earth gallery project which saw the natural science gallery undergo a makeover in 2022. The project was based on all processes being as sustainable as possible, whilst balancing the need for it to be accessible and robust for visitors. The aim was to re-interpret the gallery to reflect our greater understanding of climate change, the biodiversity crisis, and Britain’s colonial history.

Matthew will talk more broadly about the ongoing behind the scenes work at the museum and how Leeds City Museum has moved towards a greener museum model.

The informal talks will be followed by a general tour of the Life on Earth gallery and option to explore the rest of the museum at your leisure.

Due to the layout of the gallery, this event can take a max of 25 people.

We're sorry. This event has ended.
