60 million inhalers are distributed in the UK every year, of which only 0.5% are recycled. SymbioTex uses seaweed – a renewable material source which sequesters carbon as it grows – to create an alternative biomaterial! Unlike bioplastics SymbioTex’s material is home compostable and creates no harmful products upon its disposal. Symbiotex operates via licensing model offering manufactures a more sustainable raw material to help them reach net zero targets. Symbiotex has 2 main applications for its materials: cosmetic packaging and medical devices. So far this year Olivia has won London Tech Week, the Verizon and Unloc Young entrepreneur Challenge, SymbioTex was a finalist in the sustainable medicines packaging awards at the connect in pharma event in Geneva.
